My newest art tool for painting, dyeing and rusting is my office stapler. Here I’ve used staples to rust silk – I stapled fabric, soaked it in vinegar and salt in a baggie and then BOOM, I got some great-looking marks! If I get little holes in the fabric or paper while taking the staples out, I can just use those hole as more design opportunities.
