Necklace, Pendant and Earrings, circa 1865; amethyst, gold. Nineteenth-century women purchased jewelry in matching sets that were intended to be worn together. Full sets usually included a necklace, brooch, bracelet, and earrings. This partial gold and amethyst (purple quartz) set was probably paired with a low-cut evening gown and worn by a well-to-do lady around the time of the American Civil War.
AN ANTIQUE DIAMOND, PEARL AND GARNET BROOCH. The diamond-set ribbon with blister pearl centre to the pear-shaped almandine garnet with diamond floral surround, suspending a pearl drop measuring 23.0 x 12.5 mm., with single-stone collet surmount, mounted in silver and gold, bow circa 1780, pearl drop circa 1850.
