Emily G. Murphy (1868-1933), instigator of the Persons Case,  writer, and first woman magistrate in the British Empire. She pioneered married women’s rights, was National President of the Canadian Women’s Press Club 1913-1920, vice-president of the National Council of Women and first president of the Federated Women’s Institutes of Canada.

The original badge of the National Federation of Women's Institutes, which was founded in 1915.  The design was inspired by the badge used in Canada, where the world-wide Women's Institutes movement was born, hence the maple leaf as well as the rose for England.  This design for the members' badge was used until the 1970s.

Erland Lee (Museum) National Historic Site - A National Historic Site of Canada, The Erland Lee (Museum) Home was constructed in 1808 A log cabin with renovations from 1873 in the Gothic Revival style. Birthplace of the First Women’s Institute, their constitution was signed on the dining room table (1897). Women’s Institute is celebrating 117 years.
