WWII - Equipment worn by a rifleman assigned to the 1st Regiment, 1st Special Service Force (1SSF) during Operation Cottage - the liberation of Kiska Island, Alaska - August 15th 1943. The 1st Regiment 1SSF landed 5 hours before H-hour, embarking from the USS Kane and an LST. The force rubber boated ashore at Quisling Cove (Beach 9-Blue) on the island's western side. The order was to clear, secure and mark the beach landing area ahead of the main landing by 0630 hours.
