First grade students talked about the Wizard of Oz. This was one of the first movies to use color. They were surprised that some movies were only in black and white. We discussed perspective while watching the poppy scene. They noticed that the poppies at the bottom were bigger than the flowers on top. PERSPECTIVE! They made poppies using tempera paint and oil pastels. Notice how flowers at the bottom look closer!

the lesson refers to a scene in the Wizard of Oz where the poppies are in perspective (bigger at the bottom). Also taught that this was one of the first movies to be in color.
