The Halifax explosion was a maritime disaster in Halifax Nova Scotia, Canada, on the morning of Dec. 6, 1917. The SS Mont-Blanc collided with the SS Imo causing the largest man-made explosion prior to the A-bomb. 2,000 people were killed and 9,000 were injured.
