Acadian Day; New Brunswick, Canada; August 15; National day for the Acadian people since 1884. Celebrated especially at the Acadian Festival of Caraquet (lasting at least the 8 days, Sunday–Sunday, that include Aug. 15). Attended by people from the whole coast; features the blessing of the fishing fleet, on whichever Sunday has decent weather. The festival is a famous showcase for local artistic talent.
