Max Wünsche awards an SS-Oberscharführer EKII for shooting down 5 aircraft with this flak gun near Caen. Max Wünsche was never implicated in war crimes during WW2. He would repatriate to relative obscurity in 1947 after having served as an adjutant to Hitler, Sepp Dietrich, Heinrich Himmler & after having won some of Germany's top military awards in the Waffen-SS. He would meet British FM Montgomery in Falaise after his capture.
An exhausted Rommel in a photo said to have been taken shortly before El Alamein, possibly end of June/early July 1942. The now Generalfeldmarschall was at the gates of Egypt, but like himself, his forces were hanging by a thread. Egypt was, and would remain beyond his grasp.
