A formative assessment strategy 3-2-1

A Formative Assessment Option - Teaching With Simplicity

Does this look familiar? Stack after stack of papers to be graded. I have had many of these stacks. So many in fact that I have felt like I’m drowning in papers. Uggg…..not fun at all! About four years ago, I found a solution to this problem. No more stacks for me! My solution […]

I’m a big fan of one-on-one conferencing with students as a way to connect with them and check for understanding. I use this “deli-style” format with students as a fun way to let them know it is their turn to conference with me. Each student is given a ticket (from 1 to how ever many students you have in class) at the beginning of class and meets me at the designated conference area in the room when they hear the “DING!” and their number appears on the projector screen. Kids love it!

Self portrait hand prints - dewestudio lesson Have the students write about their year. What did they think 6th grade was going to be like, what was it really like? How have they grown? What new things about themselves did they learn? Fill the hands with patterns and the background with their writing.

Our new reading series at school uses a lot of photo cards. We use them to introduce our new vocabulary words and to retell our stories. The students absolutely love looking at real pictures. After

Make a Yearly Time Capsule with the Kids for New Years

Articles + Resources for Parents - Betsy's Photography

As we were relaxing after a whirlwind spree of Christmas celebrations, I started thinking ahead towards the new year. As adults, we often make resolutions and promises to ourselves, but how could that concept be reinterpreted for kids? It reminded me of a scene in one of the Berenstain Bears books , where Sister Bear gets to compare her drawings and handwriting from when she was 5 … Read More
