marmalade quilt--the beginning
Last weekend I had the opportunity to retreat with some of my friends at our annual Gruber's retreat. I believe that this was year 8! I'm so thankful for good friends from all over the country who were brought together through the internet and our common love of quilting! We have expanded our retreat to a 5 day stretch--what a treat that is! It still goes too fast. :) My main project for this retreat, other than my pincushion a day (of course!), was to work on this quilt! I opened up a much…

Shift Change
Create subtle shifts in color with ombré fabric. The large pieces allow you to utilize the gradient effect and to see the shade changes in each fabric strip. Fabrics are from the Ombre collection by V and Co. for Moda Fabrics.
the parachute quilt
I'm kind of hesitant to share this quilt today and I'm not quite sure why. Maybe because it feels so different from most of my work? Maybe because I pushed myself out of my comfort zone a lot while making it? I don't know, but I did like the challenge. And I do like the quilt. A lot. The basic design idea came from a button down shirt. As I was working on it, the quilt took on a life of it's own and it ended up quite different from what I imagined it would be. That's all a part of the fun…

Generous Quilt Donations
About a week and a half ago, I put out the call for the charity quilt drive my mother is organizing for a local nursing home. I got a few responses about people offering to donate tops or quilts. We need 62 quilts by Christmas. Well, Adele also known as Bayougirl Quilts generously sent two that arrived in the mail today. They are GORGEOUS!!! This is the first one...I think we should call it Bright Bricks because it has strips of oranges, yellows, reds, and pinks. The backing is equally…
Your place to buy and sell all things handmade
This quilt features imported Japanese cotton fabrics. Colors are traditional dark indigo with red and cream accents and binding. The design is a variation on the old Rail Fence pattern. This quilt showcases machine quilting in a free style combination of the ancient wave and key sashiko designs. Thread is a variegated blue that blends with the main color. Details of the stitching can be seen in the closeup photo. The quilt measures 41" x 56" and is appropriate for a wall hanging or baby…
Cleaning up......
I need to clear off my design walls so I started sewing some tops together. I left the edges of the 8' wide design wall in the picture so you can see this quilt is big. I'm contemplating adding to 2 sides to make it into a more rectangular shape. I have been making the blocks for this quilt when I go to the twice monthly sewing day. I decided to stop this one at 52" x 60". It is mostly Brandon Mably fabric with a few Kaffe and Philip Jacobs fabrics added. For this one you pair 2 fabrics and…

Way Too Much Stash!
Well, I'm back in Suburbia once more. Browerville, MN, where I was staying, is a cute little town located in Central Minnesota. Not a lot of stores. However, with encroachment from Brainerd, it might change over time. But, right now, it's just the right size and has most of what one needs. The best thing about Browerville downtown is Steve's Market. They provide homemade sausages and other meats which are very yummy! The sausages grill wonderfully. Oh, and did I mention that I grilled for…
