Peter Panto, the honest longshoreman who tried to push back the mob from the docks. Why did he get into the car with men he knew to be killers? His body was found years later, decomposing and covered with lime in New Jersey. The Marlon Brando character in ON THE WATERFRONT is based on him. I think I have figured out exactly who let Panto think he was safe from harm, and I let the cat out of the bag in my new novel THE BIG CROWD, coming out on September 17th.
