When Cenovus Energy moved into The Bow building it was looking for a way to repurpose its old furniture.  The company called Robb Price at Deliver Good to help out. Nearly four decades ago, Rick Laird’s life was forever changed in a matter of moments. The fit, active teenager was involved in a car crash which left Rick unable to move his arms and legs.  While becoming a quadriplegic would be discouraging for anyone, Rick Laird accepted his new situation and the challenges it presented.

A Calgary woman has faced more than her share of setbacks over the years and is our CTV Calgary Inspiring Albertan this week.  Karon Argue’s severe diabetes brought on neuropathy which put her in a wheelchair.  She learned to walk again even though she has no feeling in her legs below the knees. Jacob McGregor is preparing to leave his wheelchair and rappel down the exterior of the Sun Life Plaza as part of a fundraising effort for an organization which has helped him throughout his life.  Jacob, who has Cerebral Palsy, is training for the Easter Seals Drop Zone Calgary 2013, which will have him staring at the ground from atop the 28 storey building. For three decades, Gary Bain worked as a first responder with the Calgary Fire Department.  Gary’s career wasn't his only avenue for helping people. While employed as a firefighter, Bain became an active member of the Shriners. Following his retirement, Bain’s volunteering effort increased.

“I guess I'm one of those kind of guys that like to keep busy,” says Gary Bain.

A retired school teacher is the inspiration behind the biggest gospel music jamboree in southern Alberta and is the CTV Calgary Inspiring Albertan this week.  For the past sixteen years, Fran Hanson has inspired singers and volunteers to help a little community south of Claresholm stage the biggest gospel music jamboree in the area. A local man has entertained thousands of people across North America over the years with his horse Flicker and is our CTV Calgary Inspiring Albertan this week.

A 14-year-old Calgary girl is sharing her love of dance with kids who don't have the opportunity to spend time in dance studios.  Kylie Penney is passionate about dancing and on a recent Sunday morning she's overseeing the preparation of pre-dance lunches at the Dalhousie community centre. Friends Helping Friends’ brings volunteers from CTV, Canada Safeway and the Calgary Food Bank together to help the city’s less fortunate.  For many Food Bank volunteers, they’re donating to a cause they once relied on.  Kim Wedgerfield knows what it's like to need the Foodbank.  Nearly twenty years ago, Wedgerfield was hit by a drunk driver and suffered brain damage.  She was later diagnosed with Huntington's Disease.
