10 Apr 45: Doomed B-24 Liberator flown by Col James Gilson and named for his son. "Stevonovitch II" (aka "Black Nan") was on what was supposed to be a milk run over Lugo, Italy, in support of the Battle of Bologna, when it was hit in the wing by German flak. All but one of the crew of 10 were killed. The bombardier was thrown clear and survived. The plane was a new Pathfinder Forces ship (PFF), the forerunner of modern GPS systems. #WWII #History
