Chodowiecki, Daniel Nikolaus: Illustration for Johann Caspar Lavaters "Physiognomic Fragments for the Knowledge of Human Nature". - Goethe was very fond of Lavater, for some time at least, and had a keen interest in physiognomics, craneology/anatomy (he took lessons with Gall and others) and fossils (he discovered the incisive bone). During his visit in Berlin he went to see only two people of the rich cultural scene: "German Sappho" Anna Louisa Karsch and Chodowiecki.
