Celebrate Heart and Home

Come visit us at celebrateheartandhome.com where we celebrate life . . . the big days and the plain ones. From the days with a fussy baby to the grand celebrations of life events with all the family gathered. We need the big celebrations to give us hope and something to anticipate. We need them as reminders of what God has done and to celebrate who He is. But we also deeply need to view celebrating as a state of heart and mind, a choice we make in our everyday “dailies.”

Our oldest grandson entered our home with 3-year-old exuberance. His eyes filled with wonder when he saw our tree overladen with gifts for the 16 of us who would be present. “Nana, is one of those gifts for me?”

Merry Grateful CHRISTmas

With CHRISTmas Day 2015 before us, let’s seek to be grateful. the things still undone.

Our days can be filled to the max. Often without even trying to do so. And, too quickly, we can find ourselves having a hard time keeping up. It is easy to “react” to what is happening and too often focus on the difficult things and, instead of giving thanks, we complain. If we are not intentional, we miss the blessings, the gifts that come into our day from God.

Where oh where, did my love for acorns begin? Probably in childhood, as we gathered them by the handful. I always loved the mighty oak and their tiny acorns in the fall. They symbolized home for me as they were everywhere. But they also told me a story.

Join me in celebrating a life well lived. Recently, a friend of ours visited with Will Graham, Billy Graham’s grandson. He told her how Billy, now bed ridden and almost blind and deaf, has two nurses caring for him. At first hearing, I thought, well, he probably needs that. But the real reason for his having two nurses brought tears to my eyes.

WHAT IF . . . all of February was a special time of loving one another? WHAT IF . . . we left noticeable marks of love everywhere we went this month? Might our homes, the world, be richer for it? Ann Voskamp recently said, “The only way to live a remarkable life is not to get everyone to notice you, but to leave noticeable marks of LOVE everywhere we go.” February is a great month to put that into action.

Looking Back - No matter what 2015 has brought into our lives, we can all look back and find the Lord’s abundance strewn along our path. All. Year. Long. A relationship restored, unexpected gifts, ability to work and provide enough money to feed and clothe our families, warm shelter to live in, the sun rising each and every day. Abundant large and small things that only can be the Lords’ doing. At the top of our family list is the salvation of my husband’s mother on her death bed at 101…

Let This Verse Be the Banner We Fly In December . . . And the angel said unto them, FEAR NOT; For, Behold I bring you Good tidings of great joy, Which shall be to all people. Luke 2:10 Instead of dreading all the extra demands and jobs this season brings – let’s seek a fresh focus on why we “do what we do.” Instead of feeling fear when we hear troubling news, let’s turn to the Truth of His Word. How can we NOT FEAR this year? Know nothing can ever separate us from God’s loving care Trust in…

HOPE . . . the name of my precious little 2-year-old granddaughter born in the spring. Her mama named her HOPE as a reminder that our HOPE is in JESUS, even when we are exhausted and run dry or at the end of ourselves. Spring symbolizes HOPE: in creation, in our hearts, in the holidays we celebrate. Celebrating with HOPE can summarize all our springtime events. Between now and Easter is a great time to craft symbolic traditions for our lives; events that wrap themselves around JESUS.
