Ingredients     5 medium beets, 1 cup cider vinegar, 1/4 cup sugar     1/4 tsp salt  Instructions Wash beets thoroughly.  Wrap in foil and bake until you can stick a knife through beets with very little resistance, about 1hour to 1 hour and 10 minutes.  Remove from oven and let cool. Peel  cut into cubes. Put in a stain proof container, glass jars. Mix sugar  vinegar until sugar has dissolved. Add salt. Pour mixture over the beets. Refrigerator for at least an hour or up to 5 days.

Sweet and Sour Marinated Beets. * Marinated beets is a specialty of my grandmother Danute. She would use apple juice to marinate them and I used to absolutely love them.

Strawberry freezer jam

Schmerfeld Ackley - strawberry-jam - this looks easy no cooking. You do need to store in refrigerator/freezer. You control the sugar! If you just have to have something sweet. Great to mix in yogurt.
