ASSESSMENT: This activity can be used to assess students letter-sound knowledge. The teacher will provide students with a word and invite them to select a card a letter which matches the first sound in the word. The teacher will be able to observe if students are able to choose the correct card. The teacher can then make note of letter-sounds which are easily identified and those that students struggle with.
INSTRUCTION: This activity allows children to practice their letter-sound knowledge while also allowing students to see the relationship between letter-sounds knowledge and spelling. The teacher will use Jolly Phonics actions to mime the corresponding letter of the word for students. The students can then guess the words and the teacher can model writing the words on chart paper for the class.
