LOVE the plantation style front of the house. And I love the long drive with the trees forming a canopy over it.

My dream location: Oak Alley Plantation in Louisiana. Gorgeous plantation with symmetrical Oak trees lining a pathway. The plantation looks over the Mississippi River.

SOUTHERN PLANTATION HOME. Being from the south, this image immediately takes me there. A weeping tree in the front yard (possibly a willow?), tea brewing on the porch in the sun, and the sound of momma hollering that supper was ready.

W.B. Hart house (c 1902). Tarboro, NC is full of beautiful old homes. Go there on a tour if you can. I did last fall & saw wonderful things!

Stairs, arched cased opening with columns (I'd make them square instead of round if it was me), color

Can't imagine ever wanting a house that bit, but I DO love the idea of a mid-stairway library/office nook like this.

Is there anything more beautiful than an old Southern plantation home with over-arching oak trees lining the drive and sweet azaleas and dogwoods in bloom? *sigh* {Houmas House Antebellum Plantation Home}

Originally built in 1840 on a Georgia plantation known as Devil's Half Acre, outside of Macon, this mansion was moved in 1864, at the height of the Civil War, "17 miles away by ox cart," to its current location. Despite the hurried relocation, the house has survived another century and a half in remarkable condition, and is listed for $1.5M.

Don't you usually see two staircases in older southern homes? Either way, I like the idea of having a staircase that comes into the kitchen, in addition to a more formal staircase towards the front of the house.
