Theseus and the Minotaur - In the myth Minos forces Athens to sacrifice 7 youths and 7 maidens to the Minotaur which kills them within a vast labyrinth. Theseus emerges the victor when he kills the Minotaur.

THESEUS - Was the mythical founder-king of Athens and was the son of Aethra by two fathers: Aegeus and Poseidon. Theseus was a founder-hero, like Perseus, Cadmus, or Heracles, all of whom battled and overcame foes that were identified with an archaic religious and social order. As Heracles was the Dorian hero, Theseus was a founding hero, considered by Athenians as their own great reformer:

In exchange Theseus promised to marry her and take her back to Athens. Ariadne gave him a BALL OF THREAD and told him to secure one end at the entrance to the Labyrinth. He could then unravel the ball as he made his way. By following the thread Theseus would be able to find the way back to the entrance.
