The Sands Hotel (August 1971). The view is obscured by the unglamorous motel and liquor store that existed next to the Sands until the 1980s, carefully positioned out of most amateur and commercial photos spanning four decades. The Venetian Resort is there today.

Las Vegas Strip, 1967 looking towards E Desert Inn Dr.Hotel Last Frontier, opening in 1942 at 3120 Las Vegas Blvd S, was the second resort on the strip. After a run as New Frontier Hotel it was razed in 1965. In it's place, Frontier (owned by Howard Hughes's Summa Corp 1967-1988). Frontier closed and was demolished in 2007. ✿❀

The motel and the hotel collide in most spectacular fashion in Las Vegas, that place where the word strip finds its pinnacle amidst the duelling American obsessions of small town life and the yearning.

I remember having the best steak and eggs at this casino every time we were in Vegas. I also won a few hundred dollars in a quarter slot machine one exciting evening.
