As the Royal Canadian Navy undergoes its most extensive peacetime modernization in history, Vice-Admiral Mark Norman, Commander of the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN), announced September 19 the upcoming retirement of four ships that have reached the end of their operational lives. The ships are Her Majesty’s Canadian Ships (HMCS) Protecteur and Preserver, two Protecteur-class auxiliary oil replenishment ships; and HMC Ships Iroquois and Algonquin, two Iroquois-class guided missile destroyers.

Crews of both Her Majesty’s Canadian Ships (HMCS) Nanaimo,pictured, & Whitehorse received Operational Service Medal today for recent participation in Operation CARIBBE,Canadian Armed Forces’ continued commitment to combat illicit trafficking in Caribbean & Eastern Pacific.During ceremony at CFB Esquimalt,over 60 sailors presented medals by Commodore Bob Auchterlonie,Commander Canadian Fleet Pacific,in recognition of service & dedication on Operation CARIBBE.

More than 500 sailors from Her Majesty’s Canadian Ships Calgary (pic), Winnipeg, Brandon and Yellowknife have departed from their home port of Esquimalt, B.C., to take part in operations and exercises off the coast of Southern California.Supported by two CH-124 Sea King helicopters from 443 Maritime Helicopter Squadron, the ships will participate in a Task Group Exercise (TGEX) with the United States Navy and Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force from October 20 to 31.
