21 awesome classroom reading corner ideas i know this seems like the most cliche thing, but one of my favorite things in elementary school was having a cool place to sit and read. i think this is a great way to encourage students to read!

I add a basket of all of the play foods and paper bags labeled 1 syllable, 2 syllables, 3 syllables, and 4 or more syllables. The kids clap the syllables of the food items and put them in the correct shopping bags. Their partner will check them out at the cash register by taking items out of the bag and "checking them out" to see if they are in the correct bag.

Quiet Critters - place on children's desks during lessons if they are working quietly.

Kids made these, super cute! We used felt flowers from Kmart for the feet. Quiet Critters They live in a soundproof jar & only come out when it's quiet. Loud noises hurt their ears, but whispering is ok.
