Lawren S. Harris ~ 'Lake Superior III' Harris is also the only member of the Group who kept pushing his painting, never resting for long with one style or one species of subject matter. Long after the Group disbanded, Harris continued to grow and change as a painter, moving eventually into art deco and pure abstraction. He was also a talented ceramicist, and in 1922 he published a volume of poems.

Lawren Harris (Canada 1885-1970), Shimmering Water, Algonquin Park, c. 1922. A member the Group of Seven who pioneered a distinctly Canadian painting style in the early 20th century. During the 1920s, Harris's works became more abstract and simplified; he also stopped signing and dating his works so people would judge them on their own merit and not by the artist or when they were painted. In 1969 he was made a Companion of the Order of Canada.
