Toronto Railway Company (a predecessor to the TTC) 1893. Electric Streetcars began in 1890's & moved so fast & quiet compared to horse-drawn vehicles, accident rate shot up as people didn't know to look both ways. Life saving fenders at the front of electric cars  with an iron bar to knock a pedestrian off his feet and into the net. A gentleman reclines in the net in the pic.

A visual history of Toronto streetcars struck me as the perfect choice for my Friday archive dive after getting a chance to ride around on a Toront.

TTC 415 awaits its next run, parked on one of the two tracks which formed the North Yonge side of the Glen Echo terminal. The North York Township Market in the background is housed in what had been the Toronto & York Radial Railway car house opened in 1922 when the southern terminus of the "Radial" was cut back to the city limits at the same time as regular street car service on Yonge Street within the city was extended north to the same spot. The entire site is now occupied by a Loblaws…
