Largest water reservoir discovered in black hole. The reservoir holds as much as 140 trillion oceans, or more than 4,000 times more than exists in the entire Milky Way. It exists as vapour spread across hundreds of light years. While water has been found across much of the universe previously, this is interesting because of the fact this reservoir is 12 billion light years away, meaning that this water existed when the universe was only 1.6 billion years old.

The Sun: a solar flare

An incredibly stunning solar flare erupted from the sun's surface throwing charged particles and searing plasma millions of miles out into space. The blast was not directed at the earth and it is unlikely to hit any of the planets in our solar system.

Zeta Ophiuchus, a massive star plowing through the gas and dust floating in space. Zeta Oph is a bruiser, with 20 times the Sun’s mass. It’s an incredibly luminous star, blasting out light at a rate 80,000 times higher than the Sun! Even at its distance of 400 light years or so, it should be one of the brightest stars in the sky … yet it actually appears relatively dim to the eye.

The sun is 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit and 93,000,000 miles away from Earth. It is also 1,000,000 times the size of Earth. 960,000 Earths would fit inside it. If Earth was a golf ball, the sun would be 15 feet in diameter. It would take the Gross National Product (GNP) of the U.S. for 7 million years for a power company to run the sun for 1 second.
