The wooden construction of this hooded cradle was made about 1868 in Mahone Bay, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. It is covered with birch bark panels inserted with porcupine quills, a Native form of decoration. This example of quillwork features many traditional designs and intricate detail and is the only known surviving work by noted 19th century Mi’kmaq artist Christianne Morris.
