Toronto’s Old City Hall was once the largest civic building in North America, completed in 1899. The entire sloped roof area including the clock tower required new copper roofing. This building restoration involved the reproduction of all the decorative sheet metal elements in 20 oz copper sheets. Heather & Little Canada won multiple awards for this work including Project of the Year from the Canadian Roofing Contractors Association & North American Copper in Architecture Award. Supreme Court of Canada. We completely removed the existing roof before a new vapour barrier, insulation, roof decking and copper batten seam roofing system could be installed. The existing roof at the Chateau Laurier required extensive repair work. We partnered with Lari Masonry Contractors in Ottawa to ensure the project went smoothly. The entire old copper roofing was removed from the hotel on five of the six total phases on the building before any restorative work could take place. New copper dormers were also replaced along with the new copper roof, to ensure a perfect aesthetic design. For these copper elements we used 20-ounce copper sheets, as they were the Masonry Contractors, Copper Sheets, Aesthetic Design, Ottawa
