At on July 1916 the Battle of the Somme started with explosion of 17 massive 'mines' underneath enemy territory. Lochnagar was the largest of these. It remains "The largest crater ever made by man in anger".

Canadian fallen soldier. Afghanistan. Women have served in combat roles in the Canadian Armed Forces for many years. I do not know this soldier's name; I recall selling her equipment to augment the deficient issue equipment given to our soldiers for several years of the Afghanistan war. Boots, binoculars, and 2-way radios were 3 of the items on her shopping list. R.I.P.
