Erin Castillo, an educator at John F. Kennedy High School in Freemont, California, created a mental health check-in chart for her students.

This is the behavior chart that I created with a Grade 2 ESL student in mind. The student is bright and quick academically but struggles to maintain focus and keep his hands to himself.

This mental health chart should be in every classroom, without question.

I use these Whole Brain Teaching attention getters on a daily basis with my ELL students. These attention getters are a great way to improve your classroom management. I usually pick one or two to teach the class at the beginning of the year. Then every month or every few weeks, I introduce a new attention getter, which my students can't wait for!!
