Les syllabes

Voici une activité de puzzles (ou casse-tête) que j'utilise dans ma classe. Les élèves adorent jouer à ce jeu dans les centres de littératie. Généralement ils sont en groupes de 4 personnes et on fait des rotations. Il suffit de trouver les trois pièces (image et 2 syllabes) pour compléter le puzzle.

Dans ma salle de classe...

In grade 1, we have been learning about classroom objects. I read this book to them: After having read it to them many times over the past few weeks, they are familiar with the pattern in the book. When I read it, I have them count the objects with me, and also repeat the object after me: "Dans ma salle de classe il y a 6 livres. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 livres". When I pulled small groups during these past few weeks, I practiced the classroom vocabulary with them using different games. Here is "bug…

French story writing ideas/Conversation prompts

I like to have something available to help my students get started with their writing, so I made this. It has different cards for person, place, and thing. They can pull them at random, or they can flip through for ideas that they like. You can also use it to help start oral conversations in class, to get your students talking about new things. Here is the French version - and the English version.

Je joue avec les mots - Matching/Fill in the blanks

Here is another game that is in my « Je joue avec les mots » centre. I have all of these pictures and words in a box, and the students need to match up the pairs. The pictures are fun, and the students get their reading practice at the same time. They can match them up in a pocket chart, or just lay them out on the floor/their desk. If your students are more advanced, try this fill in the blanks game.

J’aime l’automne parce que…

We did this activity today as a way to practice making sentences with our fall words. As a class we decided that our goal would be 8 full sentences each. We also decided that they had to be entirely in French for it to count as a sentence. They were excited for the challenge!!! I like to have them quickly draw something because it's a visual prompt for them when they are sharing their work with a friend or with me. The more they draw, the more ideas they have for their sentences. Because we…
