Shield for the Field or Tournament (Targe) | German | The Met
Tournament or Cavalry Shield (Targe), ca. 1450–1500, German (Nuremberg) -- "The surface displays two campaigns of painting. The earlier decoration shows a vertically divided design: on the left, red with letters AGVF, probably those of the shield’s owner, and on the right colored stripes. Over them are two small shields displaying the arms of Lucas Ketzel (on a black ground a silver monkey holding a gold ball) and Magdalena Koller (on a red ground a silver ring), married in 1467."
