This picture went viral online not to long ago and struck a chord with many people. It shows a New York City police officer offering a pair of shoes to a homeless man, and only because of a stranger snapping a picture is this story being told. The officer bought the man new socks and shoes and even put them on his feet with no expectation to be recognized for it. Compassion, selflessness and caring are the words I think of when seeing this.

NYPD officer photographed giving boots to barefoot homeless man melts icy hearts online.a passerby happened to witness this selfless at of kindness and snapped a photo on their phone.

This photo shows how we give of ourselves in a different way. Many people around the world volunteer and give up their time and money hoping to make the world a better place. Is volunteering a duty or is it within ourselves to naturally want to give back to the community?

FatWallet gave all of us an opportunity to give back last week as bell ringers for the Salvation Army outside of our local Walmart and Walgreens stores.

Older brother saves younger sister from a house fire: Another feel good story that shows how without hesitation or much thought we feel the need to protect each other. An interesting quote from the article from the older brother "I am her big brother and I have to protect her". Does this speak to gender roles of males being the protector?

Antoine Burks initially escaped the blaze consuming his Newburg Kentucky home but after realizing his younger sister Trinity, had not escaped, he went back in.

This is feel good story that in light of the circumstances makes you smile. The two sisters ages 2 and 4 were playing by their pond to find a frog to kiss so it would turn into prince charming. The younger sister fell completely in and the eldest found a stick and used it to pull her out. During my childhood my older sister (although we didn't always get along) was always there looking out for me. Male or female we strive to protect and care for each other.

Here we see a photo of an Australian Police Officer. Police Officers may have what we see the "duty to care". That is, they are obliged to serve the public and put themselves in harms way to protect them. This article tells the story of the officer rescuing a young boy and attempting to rescue the boys father. What is interesting is how several people with the leadership of the officer also provided help and if not for the courageousness of the officer and citizens the boy may have died.

This picture shows how important caring really is. We as humans are connected to each other. This picture stems from an unfortunate even when a mans spouse life was lost in an accident. A complete stranger at the time of the tragic accident held the distraught mans hand and comforted him. Truly an unfortunate tragedy that changed many lives sheds light on how important compassion and empathy is during such times.

These flowers were left for a late hero who risked his own life to save two young girls (whom he did not know) who had drifted out into the sea at a beach. This is a heartbreaking example of how when faced with such a dire situation a humans instinctual reaction can be to put others ahead of themselves. Would you or I be willing to risk our lives in a similar situation to save another?

"Why Dogs Really Do Feel Your Pain : Discovery News" This picture to me says a lot about how we as humans think of caring. We have a natural drive to care and show empathy for one another. Through out history dogs have been one of our closest companions and we often find comfort in them during upsetting events in our lives. This article explains how dogs respond to our emotional needs and instinctively comfort us.

A toddler crying while embracing a foxhound. What we know through our own experience is confirmed by scientists: "Dogs may be hard-wired to comfort humans.
