Shang Tang street is a very old street (maybe 2000 or more years old) in Suzhou China. Suzhou is called the "Venice of the East" for its many canals. This ink painting was based on a photo I took while I was visiting this street. In the picture you can see a canal and the light from the lantern and other lights makes the water just shimmer with colour.
I did this piece just after I had spent three months in Guatemala. The quetzal is their national bird and is also the name of their currency. The quetzal has ridiculously long tail feathers. There are three secrets of the "Selva" or forest in this picture (read on if you want to know what they are): the long tail feathers of the quetzal, the frog in the bottom left corner and the not so secret butterfly.
