Shades of Silver
Collection by Ka'iulani Morrighan
I love monochromatic color schemes, thematic continuity and simple dichotomy of black & white (and shades of grey) Since my for over 2 decades I have had an interest in the blue roan horses (the true gene, that has a Siamese cat like effect) then I discovered it is actually fairly common among many different species.. I don't know that I would take up a breeding project in that direction (just because of time investment) but it definitely is a point of interest.

While this one has more brown tinting to its base, it does have a more extreme expression of the black mask and the more rare back stockings.
The dapples on the silver body of this Murgese horse definitely leave an impression
The Blue Roan Brabant shows the dramatic beauty of this uncommon coloration in Horses
And let's up the "Blue factor" one more and add blue eyes to the mix! (husky/Malinois mix)
Here are those black extremities and extreme stockings... It's almost reversal of the typical Black and Tan/counter shading
The Purebred Arabian does not have the "classic" or "True Roan" gene, so one doesn't see the classic blue roan in purebred Arabs. The purebred Arabian DOES have a form of "roaning" (mixing of white hairs) and it is properly called "Rabicano" and causes the roaning to effect the flanks, belly, and tail mostly.
It's apparently a rare color that expresses in Belgian and Dutch Shepherds occasionally
While common in Pygmy goats, some bloodlines of Nubian dairy goat also come in that silvery blue roan coloration!
Llamas call it "Silver" but with so many ways an animal can be "grey" it doesn't quite correctly describe this coloration (as it is fairly specific)
Scars and scrapes show up dark when the hair grows back. Branded roan horses have an almost photo negative effect to them. Nakota call it "corn" although I have heard it called "Storm Marks" which sounds more romantic and accurate since they are usually cause by scuffles. Most minor marks will shed out with the next season, although some scars are permanent (like brands for instance)
...and Llamas have the coloration as well
I'm not overly fond of her white toes... But such a pretty dog. ...why aren't there more like this?
