Being a nutritionist and mom of two boys, I sneak extra vegetables in anytime I can. Casseroles like Shepherd’s Pie, are a great way to do it. I make half the potato mixture with cauliflower and add extra vegetables to the filling. I rave about cauliflower to my acne clients because it helps detox the liver, supports healthy digestion, helps balance hormones and helps reduce inflammation. All very important areas when you are trying to get rid of acne, breakouts, pimples to get clear skin!
If you have been following me for some time already you will already know that inflammation is the core of acne. In order to get rid of breakouts once and for all, you need to be addressing the systemic inflammation in your body. The best way to combat inflammation is through an anti-inflammatory diet. Pineapple & Cinnamon are a perfect addition to your new anti-inflammatory menu! Find out why and get the recipe in this blog post. #clearskin #acnetips #cysticacne #anti-inflammatory #adultacne
Why is dairy the #1 enemy when it comes to acne? Dairy even when labeled hormone-free still contains hormones that are a big-time acne trigger. The proteins in milk, casein and whey, can lead to gastrointestinal distress, inflammation and potential damage to the gut lining. Gut health is the foundation to clear skin. But I got you covered with this easy Dairy-Free Ranch Dressing for your salads and veggies! #cysticance #healthyrecipes #guthealth #hormoneimbalance #hormonalacne #clearskin
I’m a former chip lover so I had to create my own healthier version. Now, these corn-free chips are a staple in our house. Corn, which is considered a grain, contains far fewer nutrients than fruits and vegetables. If you have digestive issues corn can lead to or worsen a leaky gut and encourage the growth of bad bacteria. And in turn, these gut issues will cause acne! Underlying gut issues is one of the main root causes of acne and breakouts! #clearskin
While the “perfect” diet does not exist, I think you know by now that refined foods high in sugar and dairy are not the best foods for acne. However the “ideal” skin diet does include adequate hydration, a variety of colourful fruits and vegetables, high-quality proteins, and omega-rich foods. By nourishing your body with those foods, you’ll be consuming lots of skin-boosting antioxidants, amino acids, and good essential fats. #acne #breakouts #pimples #acnetips #clearskin #cysticacne #adultacne

Resistant starch (such as potatoes) have a number of advantages for our bodies. When it comes to acne, this type of starch can help in many ways from balancing blood sugar levels, improving digestive health, and helping to reduce inflammation (core of acne). Consuming this root vegetable is super important for skin health and I made it easy with this tasty vegan recipe! #acnetips #acnetricks #clearskin #pimples

I love making hummus on Sundays for the week for a quick school-safe snack. The signature ingredients in my easy homemade hummus are chickpeas and tahini made from sesame seeds. There are so many skin-loving benefits to chickpeas. 1. They reduce inflammation (inflammation causes acne) 2. They are a great source of fibre to help digestion. 3. They are loaded with zinc. All 3 are very important when it comes to acne healing. Get the recipe in the blog! #acnetips #cysticacne #adultacne #easyrecipes
Chocolate for breakfast? Yes, please! I don’t often recommend protein powders as many contain dairy and whey. If you have been following me for some time now dairy is a hard no when suffering with acne. Dairy naturally contains several acne-causing hormones. Dairy also triggers an insulin response. The protein in dairy can damage the gut lining. That’s definitely enough to stay away from it. In this Chocolate Protein Smoothie Bowl Recipe, I used plant-based sources of protein. #clearskintips

I always remind my clients over in The Clear Skin Solution to track their water intake. Let’s face it. Water can be extremely boring. There is no taste at all. For my clients who struggle with this I always recommend this recipe! This water contains many important nutrients. Since it includes dragon fruit powder it is full of antioxidants and omega-3s. Water is a VITAL part of the health of your skin. So next time you aren’t feeling the basic water option from your tap try this recipe out!
Baking gingerbread cookies is a classic tradition during the holiday season for my family. So when I started my clear skin journey I had to create a skin-loving version. Which meant no sugar.. Sugar does so much damage to our skin. Sugar spikes insulin levels which cause more acne.. Sugar is inflammatory to the body which causes more acne.. Sugar also can cause leaky gut which causes the symptom of acne. This is why I created a healthy skin-loving alternative to this favorite holiday cookie!
Craving something sweet? I got a perfect snack for you! Medjool dates are considered natures candy and taste even better topped with cashew butter. Medjool dates are full of nutrients which makes them an even sweeter snack! They contain B vitamins essential for energy. I always tell my clients to eat more veggies when they are working to heal their skin and get rid of acne. The easiest way to do that is to make a salad and top it with tons of veggies. The best part about a salad is an easy, healthy dressing poured on top. Store-bought salad dressings are convenient and tasty but can be pretty unhealthy. This is why I always make my own healthy salad dressing recipes with clear skin properties! This almond butter turmeric dressing is easy and tasty! #acnetips
This recipe is gluten-free. If you are celiac or not, gluten is an inflammatory food because it contributes to something called “leaky gut.” And inflammation is the core of acne. Soba noodles are made from buckwheat which is high in antioxidants, lowers blood sugar, and aids digestion. The ginger in this recipe is another star. Ginger has strong antimicrobial properties that can decrease the amount of bad gut bacteria and increase beneficial gut bacteria.
Eggnog is a holiday classic. But traditional eggnog is filled with sugar (inflammatory) and dairy. Both disrupt the gut and can cause acne plus a slur of other issues internally. Being an acne expert I had to recreate this holiday drink for acne suffers to enjoy! I was able to swap out both the dairy and sugar for two great alternatives, coconut milk, and maple syrup. This way when you enjoy this decedent holiday beverage by a cozy fire you don’t have to worry about your skin! #healthyrecipes
This savory paleo galette is a warming dinner going into the colder months. This healthy recipe is a fall favourite with my family. This recipe is not only delicious but also is grain and gluten-free which makes it super acne-friendly. I always try and create different recipes for my clients to enjoy around Thanksgiving and the holidays with their families that align with their clear skin goals. Get the recipe in this blog post but also find out my other favourite filling options!#acnetips

Did you know that up to 60 percent of the adult body is made of water? Adequate hydration is vital for every function in the body, especially for healthy skin. You should aim for 2-3 liters of water per day. This includes coconut water, cold-pressed juice, broths, and non-caffeinated herbal tea like this raspberry hibiscus iced tea. This refreshing drink is perfect to bring to a bbq with friends or simply to sip on while you relax in your backyard on a hot summer day. #acne #acnetips #cysticacne
I helped my mom in the kitchen a lot. We’d make banana bread, cookies, and, of course, rice crispy squares. The classic recipe of Rice Krispies cereal and marshmallows is quite unhealthy, especially for children. While the cereal itself is not a healthy choice (hello sugar and GMO corn), the marshmallows are full of harmful ingredients that will cause acne. So I created these delicious healthy rice crispy squares for all of you & your kids to enjoy! #healthyrecipe #acnefriendly #easyrecipes
This Pomegranate Ginger Kombucha Mocktail has only two ingredients. Juice and kombucha. I absolutely love this drink because it has many health benefits including improving gut health, antibacterial properties and antioxidant support. The powerful antioxidants found in kombucha can help detoxify the liver and combat oxidative stress that leads to disease and aging. This drink will be making an appearance tonight as a New Year's Eve recipe in our house! #clearskin #healthyrecipe #acnefriendly
