In Flanders' Fields
Arguably the best-known Canadian poem ever written, "In Flanders' Field" by John McCrea was written very quickly, immediately following the interment of what was left of this Canadian army surgeon's best friend, crystallising a moment of grief and despair that was shared by all who were affected by the first world war.
