This 49th Regiment Officer dress coat is an example of an early war pattern coat which belonged to an officer in the 49th Regiment of Foot. Also known as the “Green Tigers,” the regiment served with distinction during the War of 1812, participating actively in prominent battles such as the Battle of Queenston heights (1812) and the Battle of Crysler’s Farm (1813). The 49th was also the home regiment of Major-General Sir Isaac Brock.
