Ojibwa rock painting Mishipeshu Agawa, located at Agawa, in Lake Superior Provincial Park, 90 miles north of Sault Ste. Marie. Mishipeshu = Great Lynx an imaginary spirit animal (called a mantio) it's 1/2 lynx and 1/2 sea-serpent. It represents the danger of deep or turbulent water. The Midewiwin Society claimed in 1850 that this represents a heroic 4 day crossing of Lake Superior by a war party of five canoes. The author is believed to be a tribal shaman named Myeengun = wolf.
