Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan in Pure White and Black Chalk Paint® Wax was used to help create contrasting tones that work to bring out the gorgeous carved floral motif in this vintage rococo-style chest. It was then styled it with an antique French tri-fold screen. The gorgeous dresser project was by Annie Sloan Stockist Bohème Atelier in St. Louis, MO.

Taken from the French word to rub, Annie Sloan developed this technique to make random texture over 20 years ago. Crumpled newspaper is rubbed over wet slightly dilute paint to make an uneven texture.  Here a subtle effect is achieved using Olive over Duck Egg Blue on a door.

F-F-F-F-Frottage

I’m a big fan of frottage – in case you look it up I’m not referring to the slightly rude definition! No, what I am referring to is one of my favourite paint effect techniques that brings a bolder and more distinctive ageing process to any surface – in an instant! Here is an example I created on a big table currently sitting in my Oxford shop. It is simply painted with three Chalk Paint® colours: Aubusson Blue, Scandinavian Pink and Cream.
