805 reactions · 432 shares | If you have kids like mine who can eat their body weight in strawberries then you need to try this easy Strawberry Simple Syrup! 🍓🍓🍓 I came across this recipe and was intrigued because it uses just the tops and since we just toss them out I figured it couldn’t hurt 😂 here’s what I used! 3.5 c of strawberry tops 2.5 c water 2.5 c sugar Boil over medium heat for 10 minutes then add juice of 1 lemon and splash of vanilla extract. Continue boiling for 10-15 minutes, drain and let cool. Store in fridge and enjoy! We added to lemonade but would be delicious in ginger ale, sprite, mixed drinks or whatever you want! 9K views · 606 reactions | French onion soup (in vintage ‘70s bowls with wicker cozies) Ingredients: -5 yellow onions, thinly sliced -2 cloves of garlic, minced -A couple knobs of butter (for frying) -1L (4 cups) chicken broth -1L (4 cups) beef broth -125mL (1/2 cup) red wine -Splash of balsamic vinegar -Dash of sugar -1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce -A big sprig of Thyme -A couple of bay leaves -Salt and pepper to taste -Plenty of shredded mozzaralla -200g (1 1/2 cups) shredded Gruyère -100g (3/4 cup) shredded mozzarella -20g (4 tbsp) shredded Parmesan -Thickly sliced French bread (optional: brush both sides with olive oil) Method: 1. Melt the butter in a large pot on medium heat and then fry the onions for about 10 minutes, stirring frequently. 2. Lower the heat and add a dash of salt and a slightly bigger dash of sugar. Let simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until onions are caramelized. 3. Add garlic and cook two minutes more. 4. Add the red wine and give the sides/bottom a good scrape. Then add the beef broth, chicken broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, bay leaves, balsamic vinegar, and a little more salt and pepper to taste. Let simmer 15 minutes, then remove the herbs. 5. Meanwhile, set your oven to broil. Slice the bread, brush with olive oil, arrange on a baking sheet, and slide it onto the top rack to toast. Wait a minute, then flip the bread and toast the other side for a minute. Set aside. You can also grate your cheeses and set them aside. 6. Ladle the soup into four French onion soup bowls. Place the toasted bread on top of each bowl, then sprinkle on the Gruyère, mozzarella, and finally the Parmesan. Slice onions into thin circles. Separate slices into rings. Soak in an ice bath for 15 minutes. Dry well, then coat with corn starch. 2. Make the batter. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, baking powder, salt, pepper, and beer. 3. In a small saucepan, heat the oil to 185C/365F. Working in batches of five or six, dip the corn starch-coated rings in the batter and drop them into the oil. They should sink for a few seconds, then float. Use a fork to gently separate them if they stick together. Fry for around three minutes, or until golden brown. 4. Make the dipping sauce. In a small bowl, mix all ingredients until well combined.
