Conquering the Hundred Chart

Mathematics is all about patterns. Some describe mathematics as the science of patterns, and the ability to understand patterns is described as a key concept in NCTM’s algebra standard.

This Family Math Night 'What Do You Notice?' activity focused on triangular numbers and, for the little guys, shapes.

recognize, describe, and extend patterns such as sequences of sounds and shapes or simple numeric patterns and translate from one representation to another; analyze how both repeating and growing patterns are generated.

This set of 40 Patterning Task Cards reviews the concepts of pattern rules, finding the next term in a pattern, using algebraic expressions to describe patterns and graphing patterns. Wether you use this as a unit introduction, math centre, or review activity, your students will love this activity. An answer sheet and answer key are included.

Patterning centre, first grade

This patterning activity helps students understand the different types of patterns that can be made, and allows them to analyze how the patterns grow and continue.

I did this activity with my 2nd grade class. I had them determine the pattern rule, and then use colored paper and markers to write down the rule, then cut and glue the rule where it says! It's also great because it gives them the opportunity to make their own patterns! :) 6112

This would be good to use with various grades, making the pieces fit with the grade needing it for.

Growing Pattern Task Cards

Perfect for math centers! Prompt your students to extend growing patterns with unifix cubes using these task cards! Any questions, just ask. :) Check out my other Growing Pattern resource: Growing Pattern Task Cards - Part 2 (with pattern blocks)
