The theme for my guild's challenge this month is Native American/Southwest. I may have mentioned previously on this blog my former love affair with Native American art. During the early century, Canadian First Nations people were treated with no respect at all. This is displayed in the residential school system that the Canadian government implemented where the goal was to "kill the Indian" in a child. The last residential school in Canada, White Calf Collegiate, closed in 1996. In 2007, a settlement was offered to former students. Why is it difficult for First Nations today to obtain settlements/reparations? What are some barriers?
