Sally Maddison's students design robots and calculate the area and perimeter. I love the creativity for ALL students. The area and perimeter calculations are good for lower and average students, but won't engage top students. In this case I think that's okay. I don't want to give top students an activity that looks different from their peers. If you do whisper a word - make it "joints." Don't elaborate - except to say that the robots in any pose must always be aligned to the graph paper.
