White Army Stand, a project I began as a Grade 4 student in the library at Mountain View Elementary School in Miss Sandy Cervo's Grade 4 class, is now, 31 years later, finally in published form! The awesome illustrations are by Adam White of Elkford, B.C. Project Support provided by Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance ~ a community initiative supported by funding from the Columbia Basin Trust. http://www.fictionontheweb.co.uk/2015/04/white-army-stand-by-michael-saad.html
Here is a sneak peak of a scene from White Army Stand, my story coming out this April 14th in the UK. This story was 31 years in the making, first begun back in 1984 when I was in Grade 4. The story, which has underwent many revisions since then, will retain the same spirit I envisioned way back then. The art is from the brilliant Adam White, from Elkford, B.C. Clayton Cytko's second illustration for my horror story "The Terrors of the Earth." This one is of Roggin's cabin. The eerie ambiance & the hourglass symbology in the picture are all Clayton's constructs. Roggin's cabin is based (loosely) on the cabins of my childhood in the 'Corvan Valley,' which, for those of you from the Elk Valley, is a combination of the Corbin Valley & Grave Lake, where most of the scenery I describe in the story is taken from.
Clayton Cytko's teaser illustration for my horror story "The Terrors of the Earth," published in the April 2014 edition of Under the Bed Magazine. I loved the way Clayton dated the poster, by giving it that hurried, weathered look that suggested it is, by the time of the story, now 23 years old. Great stuff by the ultra talented Clayton Cytko! "A Decorous Age," published, and available for free online, in Halfway Down the Stairs Magazine, out of Massachusetts. This is a story about a man who's had enough, and is ready to finally end it all. Ready to take the fateful last step, a chance encounter with evil compels him to carry out one last, desperate act. http://www.halfwaydownthestairs.net/index.php?action=view&id=137

Heater Vol. 02 No. 07 - Dedicated to my late English 12 teacher, Mr. Ron Basarab, this story deals with a young man's quest to redeem a dark and painful decision he made as a child, a decision that haunts him well into adulthood. This story has been expanded and turned into a novel, and will be out next year. For now, the story version, which will serve as an excerpt for the novel, was published in the August 2014 edition of Heater Magazine in the US.
eFiction Vol. 04 No. 12 - features my story "Splits in the Skin," about a bitter teenager's spiral into the world of "Crazy Harvey," a man whose notorious partying also harbors dark secrets of his own. The corollary to this story, tentatively titled "Splits in the Heart," will be out next year.
