When I am 100 Years Old!
I am in LOVE with this project! I just did it for the 13th year in a row in honor of the 100th day of school, and let me tell you- it never gets old! Ha! Even if your 100th day is a little bit past, you should still do it! It's so fun! And I promise you, everyone who walks through your hall and sees them is sure to comment on how hilarious they are. At one of my old, old schools we had a very strict kind of mean-ish Principal who never filed or liked ANYTHING, but guess what? She was…

Welcome Thank you for taking an interest in your child’s art education. This year promises to be one filled with lots of learning and fun! The art curriculum for Kindergarten has four main goals. Students will: Make connections between art and their lives by communicating experiences and feelings through an exploration of a variety of drawing, painting, and sculpting materials and tools. Be introduced to a variety of materials. Reflect upon art through the development of a beginning art vocabulary. Incorporate a developmentally appropriate understanding of the elements of art and principles of design in their work. This website was created in order to help parents see first hand the learning that is taking place in the classroom. To facilitate this process, this website was created with three main purposes in mind: To provide parents with a general outline of the types of projects students will be working on throughout the year. (Projects are subject to change.) To showcase the amazing and creative projects done by this year’s talented group of Kindergarten students. To keep parents updated on any important information related to the art through the “Art News” section of this website. Please be sure to check this site often for updates and news items. Thank you once again for supporting your child’s love of art! The art department looks forward to this exciting new school year.

Picasso Faces - Pre-K and Kindergarten
You may have noticed that I love to do different versions of cubist self portraits or "Picasso faces." What a treat it was this week to introduce my group of 5 and 6 year olds to one of the most iconic and revolutionary artists in history. I explained to them that rather than painting a picture of a person the way you see them (like when you take their picture), Picasso wanted to show 2 or more different sides of the person all at once. Group response: smiles and giggles. Great, I've got…
