‘It’s really a hometown story’: John McCrae honoured in Guelph

While some think he's from Montreal, others think he's a Brit, the story of soldier, doctor and poet John McCrae traces back to Guelph, Ontario.

In Flanders' Fields

Arguably the best-known Canadian poem ever written, "In Flanders' Field" by John McCrea was written very quickly, immediately following the interment of what was left of this Canadian army surgeon's best friend, crystallising a moment of grief and despair that was shared by all who were affected by the first world war. This is a summary of a small part of a very moving talk by Tim Cook, presented at the Toronto Reference Library last night, on McCrae and his war. May they all rest in peace.

Clearly Canadian :) For all you Canucks!

I am truly a Canadian, just as I am sure you are a true lover of your nation of birth. Isn't it funny how connected we are to our country of origin? This one is for all of my Canadian friends. I've seen then on etsy with all of the states and I just fell in love. Because Canada has a heck of a lot less provinces than the USA does states- I thought I'd start with Canada. My home sweet home! Enjoy this labour of LOVE... and share the love, M. They are in Alphabetical Order :) Oh yes, and there…

“Why Wear a Poppy?” – By Don Crawford

“Please wear a Poppy,” the lady said, And held one forth, but I shook my head, Then I stopped and watched as she offered them there, And her face was old and lined with care; But beneath the scars …

I don’t feel that this is unfair. That’s the thing about cancer. I’m not the only one, it happens all the time to people. I’m not special. This just intensifies what I did. It gives it more meaning…
