In the foreground, there is a large custom ottoman which not kid-friendly but it acts as a coffee table too. The retro turquoise chair offers extra seating, extra colour and swivels for better TV viewing. Even the staircase in the background was freshened up with white paint and less wood.
What do you do with a corner fireplace other than rip it out!! You work with it. In this case, the client had plenty of art and photography to fill this large wall with an array of art work. the console under the art wall helps to ground the area and provides storage for the TV units and CD collection.
Here is a look at the other side of the room that connects to the kitchen. The old window frame and corner shelves give a sense of the passed. Add a couple of patterned chairs with some brightly coloured pillows and you have a beautiful friendship between the old and the new!
When you have four kids, two adults, grand parents and friends, you need a large sectional! This custom built cognac coloured leather couch was made to follow the angled lines of the room to make the best use of the space. It feels like butter when you sink into it the leather is so soft!
In this family room we up dated the fireplace and kept the existing open shelves. The original built-in had a rounded top, country style cupboard doors all dressed in oak. so we squared out the top, change the doors to match the adjacent kitchen cupboards and painted the whole unit white to coordinate with the window shutters. Not only did it make the room brighter, it also made the fireplace stand out.
This family room fireplace has been beautifully appointed with clean lined trim work and marble subway tiles. we stylized the client's art collection for a casual display on the mantel. The coffee table is a throw back from the 80's which was stripped down, restrained and given a new life.
This show-stopper family room has a dramatic fireplace/TV focal point mounted on a waterfall of mosaic gray tiles. Flanking each side of the fireplace are a pair of tripod lamps with square shade to further the drama. The triangular shape of the lamps, is repeated in the chrome leg design of glass coffee table.
