Henry Budd was the first Anglican of First Nations ancestry to be ordained a priest in North America. He served among the Crees in western Canada – and was paid only half as much as White priests by the Church Missionary Society. He translated the Bible and the Book of Common Prayer into Cree, and taught the People agricultural methods; the Henry Budd College for Ministry in The Pas, Manitoba, was established in his honour in 1980.
