This oil painting is inspired by some of my ancestry: French-Canadian voyageurs. The scene is painted across a trio of artist’s conks (bracket fungus) and securely attached to a hardened and preserved piece of tree bark.

I painted a sand dune-and-ocean scene directly onto a section of old lobster trap. The slats washed up on a Prince Edward Island beach near a fishing wharf, and the found object was collected and dried as is before becoming my canvas for a PEI landscape. My mother-in-law, in fact, collected this and shipped it along with other driftwood specifically for me to create from.
