In early 1942, after the bombing of Pearl Harbour, Canada invoked the War Measures Act and ruled that any Japanese within a 100 mile radius of the BC coast would be removed to internment camps in the interior of BC. The War Measures Act was made in 1914, and gave the government expanded powers during war time.

The implementation of the War Measures Act on Oct. 11 days after the kidnapping of James Cross and the day before Pierre Laporte was found dead in the trunk of a car by the FLQ. Know as the October Crisis.
